When Truth Stands Idly By

Is truth always the silent partner?
That falsehood always has a word to say,
and truth, simply, tags along.

That Tweedledum and Tweedledee ne'er did cast a longer shadow,
When men's love of lies, did make their blushes go unseen
With smaller contrasts that did blur their faces to a pallor.

For most men will laugh with comely lies, by those told with a smile,
Never batting an eyelid when the curtain drops and there
Revealed for all to see,
lies a pitiless grimmace.

That they would sacrifice upon that cold altar
The truth, for what they consider a social good
That they would bind their eyes, and forget to call the other's bluff.

At the end of days they will rue that day,
when they did not stand with the men of truth
who could not stomach any sweet social lie
because it left a lasting bitter taste

Each of us is upon a road,
Long it seems whilst we on it's wide berth.
But short it is, when we look back
The Truth having left our side.
