Fathomless

A fathomless pit of gold awaits

Those that age beyond their years

Drear, it cowers you with hefty weight

And upon a slight, all but disappears.

A cavernous pit of belly delights.

Those eyes that cannae satisfy

Portends both sloth and slovenliness

Whilst your grave is not so far, away.

The folly of youth will not avail

Nor stay the ticking hands of age

Where one day regret will friarly stand

And proudless memories you’ll wish away

How flimsy is their house of cards

Those who build them up with airs, and graces

No depth, nor happiness will they know

For their life is all a tell and show

The greater struggle of power, and authority,

Is to keep the small man forever in your sights.

To fulfil your remit, and limit your reach.

To worry about befalling the four cases, mentioned afore.

All men are equal says the sage

But those for whom jealousies bite

They will not see the light of day

even when tameness appears to be their game

Each of us, journeys must end

All alone, at that last

“Are you a mureed,

Where is your helper?”

“Did you stay true?”

“And true to who?”

We believe in Allah and His Messenger

His Speech the guide,

The other our teacher.

All glory due to Him, above all else,

All praise to Him, having no partner.

END.

Completed on a quick visit to my in-laws in Mombasa. Mombasa forever in my heart.
